As much as it pains me to write a headline like that, the reality is we can all can use some tips right now. Sure we aren’t going anywhere so who is there to impress, but it’s true that most of us get dolled up for ourselves. And on top of that, proper maintenance and scalp care are important for our hair. It’s imperative that our natural curls not tangle or dry out, and our locs not break from too much friction or dryness.

Here are four easy but cute styles to achieve for locs and natural hair while you’re hairstylist is out of office.

2 Braids on Natural Hair

Separate fully detangled and moisturized hair into two halves, or make the part uneven for a more stylish effect. Comb Shine N Jam Conditioning Gel or Salvaged Roots Whipped Shea Butter into the edges of your hair and parts and proceed to braid 2 cornrows. Secure the ends with rubberbands and hair pins.

Halo Loc Braid

Separate moisturized and oiled locs into 2 halves, making the part uneven for a halo effect. Proceed to french braid locs (pulling each loc into the middle of the braid) to the end, secure with rubberbands, overlap each end and secure with pins or thread.

Flat Twist into a Low Bun

This style requires more patience and skill with double strand twists. Part thoroughly detangled and moisturized hair into 8-12 even sized parts. Get creative with the parting and remember to guide all ends to the nape of the head. Always try to use a sealant when twisting your hair so it doesn’t break from friction. Create a bun and secure with hair pins.

Loc Rodset

This style also requires patience for dryer time, or time to allow your hair to dry. On wet, thoroughly moisturized and oiled Locs, roll each loc onto a perm rod and secure. Make yourself comfortable and dry under a hood bonnet dryer for at least 2 hours. Oil your scalp again (it may be tight after drying for so long) and DO NOT remove rods before your hair is fully dry or your curls will drop quickly.

BONUS:

High Ponytail

On freshly twisted and oiled hair, part hair horizontally into two parts. Leave 4 locs out at the temples and double twist them; secure with a rubberband. Pull the remaining hair from the top half into a ponytail and secure. Wrap the base of the ponytail with a loc from the ponytail.
